So I haven’t actually started my journey yet, but I’m hoping to send out weekly-ish updates of my adventures. Some of you have heard all about my travel plans, some of you I haven’t seen in ages. Here’s the cliff notes version of what I’m up to.
This fall I’m starting an MBA and University of Chicago but before I freeze my butt off in the windy city I’m spending about three months in the hot, rainy, muggy, humid weather of South East Asia. Since we’ve had the opposite of an Indian summer in Beijing (that is, a frozen spring) I’m very much looking forward to the heat! Tomorrow I’m flying to Nanning, lounging around for a day and then taking a train into Hanoi. I’ve got a hostel booked for the first two nights and besides that… no plans, no set schedule. Just me and my trusty Lonely Planet guide. I’m hoping to hit up Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. I’m hoping I’ll meet tons of new friends, but also spend days swinging in a hammock with just my own thoughts. I’m hoping to take a rock climbing course in northern Thailand and maybe a cooking course in Laos. I look forward to the perfect beach days, but also the frustrating torrential downpour rainy days. I’ve got that same scared/excited feeling as when I first got on a plane to come to China.
Don’t worry mom, I promise I’ll be very safe. And when I make it out alive, here is when you can expect to see me…
I’ll be in Beijing for a farewell July 27th/28th
For my hometown friends, I’ll be in Vancouver July 29th to August 15th
And after that it’s off to Chicago for a completely different type of adventure.
